Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What are the system requirements for School Bells Online?
  2. Macintosh - Mac OS 10.3 or Newer
         or
Windows - Windows XP or Newer
         and
    An internet connection
Working speakers or other sound output device

  3. How many computers in our organization can run the software at once?
  4. All of them. However, normally only one computer per classroom or work area is required. As long as the people in the area can hear the bell, there is no need to install it on every computer.

  5. Is there a per-computer or per-user licensing fee?
  6. No. You are charged per ID Code, not per computer. You can use the same ID Code on all the computers in your organization.

  7. Why would anyone need more than one ID Code?
  8. Each ID Code in School Bells Online is assigned to a single schedule. Groups that need more than one schedule would need multiple ID Codes. For example, a school may want to have different schedules for elementary, middle, and high school students. A company may have different areas of operations that function on different schedules, for example, sales and manufacturing.

  9. Why is an internet connection required?
  10. School Bells Online is a Client - Server system. The client needs access to the server, www.schoolbellsonline.com, in order to update the bell schedule. We also recommend setting your computer to synchronize it's internal clock to one of the online atomic clocks to ensure proper timing for the bell schedule.

  11. Is it possible to run School Bells Online in an offline mode?
  12. Yes. However, you must connect to the server at least once in order to activate the software and download the initial bell schedule. After the initial connection, the software will continue to operate without an internet connection. You will need to connect to the server in order to download any changes or updates to the the schedule. If you are running in a multiple computer environment, an internet connection is required to keep the schedules synchronized between computers.

  13. Is there a version that runs entirly offline?
  14. Not at this time. If we receive enough interest in a standalone version, we may consider building one in the future.

  15. How many bells may be active at once?
  16. School Bells Online allows a maximum of 1440 active bells per day. You may ring a bell every minute of every hour all day long if you wish.

  17. Can we set up different schedules for different days of the week?
  18. Yes. You can set up a different schedule for each weekday, i.e. each Monday would have the same schedule which could be different from Tuesday.

  19. Will the bells sound if my computer is asleep?
  20. No. The bells will not sound if the computer is asleep. Because of this, we recommend that you set your computer to activate a screensaver or dim the display instead of going to sleep.

  21. How much does the system cost? / What is the licensing fee?
  22. We sell this solution based on the number of IDs you need, not the number of computers running the software. The cost is a one time fee of $300 per ID. For more than 5 IDs, the price is discounted to $250 per ID.
